SHAH ALAM, Nov 2 — The Selangor Agriculture Development Corporation (PKPS) said it ensures food products under its purview meet halal, cleanliness and quality standards before they are marketed through its distribution network.
PKPS Group chief executive officer Datuk Mohamad Khairil Mohamad Razi said special attention is paid to suppliers’ sources, documentation and halal certification, especially for chicken.
“PKPS supports monitoring and enforcement by authorities to ensure chicken slaughtering and distribution through its networks comply with established rules and requirements, including halal certification and sharia laws.
“PKPS will keep working with agencies concerned in monitoring chicken sources and distribution processes for its programmes to ensure halal, cleanliness and quality aspects,” he said in a statement today.

Khairil said PKPS also supports efforts to boost food security and ensure supply management prioritises user confidence.
He added that people may check the halal certification for chicken distributed by PKPS on the Malaysian Halal Directory.
“Information on halal certification is subject to records and certification scopes displayed on the directory,” he explained.
Previously, media reports said more than 6.5 tonnes of chicken was seized in an October 30 raid on a slaughterhouse in Puchong. The facility operator is suspected of using electricity water bath stunning to shock chickens before slaughter, which goes against halal standards. Twelve Bangladeshis and Pakistanis were arrested in connection with the case.
Earlier today, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari called on authorities to ramp up the inspection and monitoring of slaughterhouses to ensure they comply with halal rules.
Amirudin said halal certification bodies and local councils must collaborate to ensure consistent monitoring of such facilities.
