SHAH ALAM, Nov 2 — The Hulu Langat District and Land Office (PDT) is fully prepared to face floods during the northeast monsoon season, said Hulu Langat district officer Dato’ Mohd Jusni Hashim.

He added that action is being coordinated between agencies concerned to ensure each one is ready to perform their duties, including in disaster management and channelling aid to victims.

“By year end, we are expecting a major flood in Hulu Langat. At the district level, we are holding coordination meetings to ensure each agency is doing its best.

“Our preparations are at 100 per cent. God willing, each (agency) understands its role, and (strategies) will be improved periodically,” he told Media Selangor.

Previously, the Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the northeast monsoon started on October 27 and will last until March, with three to five episodes of continuous heavy rain in the initial stage of the monsoon.

On long-term efforts to mitigate floods, Jusni said the RM500 million Sungai Langat Phase 2 Flood Mitigation Plan is in the tender-selection stage and will take five years to complete.

In February, Deputy Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad reportedly said consultants for the development were appointed on May 9 last year, with a service period from May 19, 2025, to August 19, 2032, to design and supervise the project.

Package 1 of the Sungai Langat Phase 2 Flood Mitigation Plan encompasses upgrades to the river stretch from Kampung Sungai Lui to Taman Sri Nanding, with an allocation of RM512 million.
