Schools in Hulu Langat, Sepang closed tomorrow due to haze

SHAH ALAM, Oct 13 — Schools under the Hulu Langat and Sepang Education Offices will be fully closed tomorrow, following the air quality reading in the area.

The Selangor Education Department (JPN) said that the closure applies to all schools in both districts.

“Meanwhile, schools in other districts across Selangor will operate as usual.

“Affected schools are requested to inform parents or guardians and take appropriate measures to ensure the safety and health of students remain the priority,” it said in a statement today.

The Selangor JPN also advised members of the education community and parents to stay updated with official announcements from the authorities regarding air quality developments and relevant directives on school operations.

“Further information concerning school operations and reopening will be communicated through the official channels of the Education Ministry and the Selangor JPN,” it added.

According to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), Johan Setia and Klang recorded declining air quality, with both areas moving from moderate readings to unhealthy levels.

As of 3pm today, Johan Setia recorded an API reading of 146, up from 97, while Klang rose to 115 from 94.

Both areas were among 22 nationwide reporting unhealthy air quality.

The portal also reported that Johor topped the list in the unhealthy reading levels nationwide.

API readings of zero to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and above 300 hazardous.
