SHAH ALAM, Oct 12 — An additional lane stretching approximately 300 metres will be built along Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari (B49) to improve road safety and traffic flow at the Alam Budiman junction.
The Selangor Public Works Department (JKR) said preliminary works were under way, while physical construction was expected to begin in mid-2027, taking into account the need to protect and relocate utility infrastructure.
The project, covering the stretch from Puncak Alam towards Shah Alam, will also include additional street lighting, upgraded traffic lights and other road safety improvements.
"Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari (B49) is a state road connecting Puncak Alam and Shah Alam.
"Rapid development along this route has contributed to traffic congestion and road safety concerns," JKR Selangor said in a statement dated October 11.
The department said the Alam Budiman junction had been identified as a high-risk location because it lies along a downhill stretch approaching traffic lights.
It said the state government had allocated RM4 million for road safety improvements along the route between 2023 and 2025, including the addition of a temporary lane, road signs and street lighting.
As of October this year, another RM216,000 had been spent on repairs and safety improvements.
As a long-term solution, JKR Selangor has submitted a proposal to upgrade Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari to a four-lane road, including major junctions along the stretch from the DASH interchange to the Budiman Valley U15 junction, under the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2).
The department is also continuing to monitor traffic conditions and carry out regular maintenance to ensure road safety facilities remain in good condition.
Previously, a multi-vehicle accident at the Alam Budiman junction on October 9 drew public attention after footage of the incident went viral on social media, raising concerns over safety along the route.
