SHAH ALAM, June 13 — The Selangor Public Works Department (JKR) is planning upgrades to the Alam Budiman intersection, including the construction of an additional 300-metre lane from Puncak Alam towards Shah Alam, in a bid to ease congestion and improve road safety for motorists.
It said the improvements will also involve the installation of new streetlights, upgrades to traffic lights and other road safety works in the area.
“Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari (B49) is a state road connecting Puncak Alam to Shah Alam and is currently facing congestion and safety issues due to rapid development along the route.
“One of the critical locations is the Alam Budiman intersection, which is located on a downhill stretch towards a traffic light junction, where road geometry, vehicle speed and vehicle condition have contributed to accidents,” it said in a statement today.
Selangor JKR said it has also requested the upgrading of the B49 route into a four-lane road, including the upgrade of key intersections from the DASH Interchange to the Budiman Valley U15 junction under the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2), as a long-term measure.
According to the department, various mitigation measures have been implemented by the Petaling JKR from 2023 to 2025 at a cost of about RM4 million to improve safety along the road.
Among the works carried out were temporary lane construction, installation of road furniture, upgrades to the state road lighting system and installation of safety signboards.
Selangor JKR said it will continue monitoring current conditions and work with relevant agencies to further improve road safety and traffic flow in the area.
Yesterday, media reported that more than 30 residents, mainly from Section U10, gathered in front of the Alam Budiman commercial centre to voice concerns over road safety and call for urgent improvements.
It is understood that more than 200,000 residents use the route daily, covering areas such as Alam Budiman, Puncak Perdana, Puncak Alam, Saujana Utama, Nusa Rhu and Setia Alam Section U13.
Residents also claimed that accidents occur almost daily along the route, including a motorcycle crash near Greenhill Residence and a two-vehicle collision between Puncak Perdana and Alam Budiman in May.
