SHAH ALAM, Nov 1 – The Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL) issued 10 compounds to restaurant owners for failing to meet cleanliness standards after inspections on October 20.

The council said cleanliness at some premises was unsatisfactory; issues included non-functional grease traps that had not been maintained regularly.

According to MPKL, this situation led to pollution, as food waste was discharged directly into drains, creating a nuisance for the surrounding environment.

"One of the primary issues identified was the presence of grease traps that were either non-functional or not maintained on a regular basis.

"This resulted in pollution and a public nuisance, as food waste from the premises was released directly into the drains," MPKL said.

Consequently, MPKL issued 10 compound notices under the Food Establishments (MDKL) By-Laws 2007 and the Advertising (MDKL) By-Laws 2007.

MPKL has also directed the affected premises owners to take immediate corrective action to ensure environmental cleanliness and the well-being of local residents are upheld.

Meanwhile, MPKL inspected 43 food premises throughout October, with 20 achieving a 'Grade A' rating.

MPKL also acknowledged food premise owners who showed a strong commitment to cleanliness and compliance with established regulations.
