SHAH ALAM, Sept 28 — A total of 161.3kg of rubbish was collected during an integrated beach clean-up programme at Pantai Morib Baru here yesterday.
The Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL) said the programme, held in conjunction with Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup 2026, was attended by 200 participants.
“Through the participants’ concerted efforts, a total of 161.3kg of rubbish was collected.
“To ensure systematic waste data management, the rubbish collected was recorded using the CleanSwell application (Reef Check Malaysia),” it said in a statement on Facebook.
The programme involved public and private sector employees, residents’ associations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), schools and higher education institutions.
Activities included beach cleaning and the ‘Who Has the Heaviest Rubbish’ competition, aimed at encouraging participants to play a role in keeping coastal areas clean.
The programme was also attended by Tengku Datin Paduka Setia Zatashah, community representatives, heads of departments and MPKL staff.
MPKL said the initiative was in line with the action plan under Selangor’s Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) and has been held consistently every year since 2017.
“Through public participation, particularly among teenagers and children, the programme instils a spirit of cooperation and shared responsibility in preserving coastal areas,” it said.
The initiative also supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to climate action, life below water, life on land and partnerships for the goals.
