BANTING, Oct 11 — The state government plans to implement three additional coastal conservation projects in Kuala Langat with an estimated allocation of RM55 million under the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2).
The projects at Pantai Kampung Endah, Pantai Batu Laut and Pantai Tumbuk aim to mitigate the risks of coastal erosion and flooding, particularly during high tides.
In a statement issued by Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL), in conjunction with the inauguration of Dataran Dato’ Seri Harun Idris at Pantai Morib today, it said the project at Pantai Kampung Endah is estimated to cost RM15 million, covering erosion control and sand replenishment works.
Meanwhile, the project at Pantai Batu Laut is estimated at RM20 million, involving erosion control and the upgrading of coastal embankments to strengthen coastal protection.
The Pantai Tumbuk initiative, meanwhile, involves an estimated RM20 million for erosion control and sand replenishment to reduce the impact of high tides.
These projects are part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen coastal protection, particularly in areas vulnerable to erosion and flooding risks.
Earlier, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj officiated the opening of Dataran Dato’ Seri Harun Idris, named after the former Selangor Menteri Besar, in conjunction with the reopening of Pantai Morib today.
Also in attendance were Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, his wife Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad, as well as the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the late Harun.
The reopening of Pantai Morib follows the completion of a RM60.5 million rehabilitation project, initiated after the area was impacted by the high tide phenomenon in September 2020.
The project encompassed sand replenishment, the construction of a seawall, drainage systems, breakwaters, and navigation beacons to enhance the safety and resilience of the coast.
In addition to mitigating erosion and flood risks, the project is expected to boost Morib Beach's appeal as a tourist destination.
Last July, Amirudin announced the completion of seven development projects under the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (PETRA) valued at approximately RM83 million, aimed at reducing flood and erosion risks in several areas of Selangor.
These projects, implemented by the Selangor Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS), involve river upgrading works and the reinforcement of embankments at various locations, including Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor and Morib.
Completed projects include the reinforcement of the Sungai Penchala riverbank (RM4.29 million), the upgrading of Sungai Kemensah (RM9.4 million), embankment control and reinforcement at Sungai Haji Dorani Beach (RM2.62 million), and similar works at Batu 23 Beach (RM1.79 million).
Also completed were an erosion control project in Kuala Selangor (RM4.83 million) and the Pantai Morib rehabilitation project (RM60.5 million).
