KAJANG, Oct 31 — After nearly a decade without being held, the Kajang Municipal Council’s (MPKj) Car-Free Morning Programme returned to enliven the town, attracting more than 1,000 participants for a fun run and leisurely walk at Dataran MPKj @ Kajang Stadium this morning.

Its president Nazli Md Taib said the programme’s return aims to bring Kajang town to life through a range of recreational and community activities.

“MPKj first organised Car-Free Day in Kajang in 2017. After nearly a decade, it has revived the programme with various activities, including aerobics, zumba, lucky draws, and a colouring competition for children under 12,” he said.

Nazli added that 1,000 T-shirts were prepared free of charge for participants in the fun run and leisurely walk, but all had been distributed to those who registered early.

“All the T-shirts were given out to participants who registered early,” he said.

The 2026 MPKj Car-Free Morning programme was also held in conjunction with the 2026 National Carnival and Small Traders’ Day (HPPK2026), which runs from yesterday until tomorrow.

Nazli said MPKj worked with the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry (KUSKOP) to organise the carnival, including providing the stadium grounds, managing traffic, and handling waste.

Through the collaboration, 300 traders and hawkers also had the opportunity to market their products at the stadium grounds without paying permit fees.

“With a target of 50,000 visitors throughout the carnival, traders and hawkers have been given the opportunity to sell and promote their products to an international audience,” he said.
