SHAH ALAM, Sept 29 — Approximately 27,664 cigarette butts were collected during a plogging activity held in conjunction with Malaysia Clean-up Day 2026 at Pasar Moden SS15 in Subang Jaya recently.
The activity, which attracted 552 participants, also collected 278.75kg of recyclable materials and 149.55kg of rubbish, bringing the total collection to 428.3kg.
The programme, held simultaneously across Selangor, was organised in conjunction with World Cleanup Day 2026.
KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd (KDEBWM) said it carried out the programme in collaboration with local authorities, relevant agencies, and communities to strengthen the culture of cleanliness and improve waste management.
“All these initiatives reflect KDEBWM’s continued commitment to supporting local authorities and communities in strengthening the culture of cleanliness, proper waste management, and environmental sustainability,” it said in a Facebook post.
Besides plogging, the programme also featured a mass clean-up, aerobics, a Recycle Exchange, area cleaning, bulky waste collection, and agency exhibitions.
In Section 5, Bandar Rinching, the programme collected nearly 24 tonnes of bulk waste in collaboration with the Kajang Municipal Council.
Meanwhile, 4.9 tonnes of bulky waste were collected at Lot Kedai Pancang Bedena through a collaboration with the Sabak Bernam District Council.
At Taman Tasik Milenium in Kuala Kubu Baharu, KDEBWM Hulu Selangor, together with the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council, ensured that the area remained clean before, during, and after the programme.
The simultaneous implementation of the programme at several locations demonstrated the continued cooperation between KDEBWM, the local authorities, and communities in fostering cleanliness practices and more responsible waste management.
