SHAH ALAM, Mar 2 — The Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) has received 33 objections to the Pusat Bandar Kajang Draft Special Area Plan following its month-long public consultation.
A council spokesperson said concerns raised were largely focused on specific development proposals within the plan, The Star reported.
“Ten were related to the proposed community hub and art hub at Jalan Changkat which is near the river corridor,” he was quoted as saying by the local English daily.
Another eight objections centred on facade guidelines for buildings along Jalan Mendaling, particularly involving heritage conservation and preserving the historical character of one of Kajang’s oldest streets.
Other feedback highlighted traffic-related matters, including the proposed one-way traffic circulation system in the town centre, parking availability, and the need to improve pedestrian pathways.
The draft blueprint, which was displayed for public feedback from January 14 to February 13, sets out plans to reposition Kajang town centre as a heritage destination and integrated arts hub under a federal government urban renewal initiative.
The plan covers 53.71 hectares of the town centre and outlines 44 proposed projects involving transport upgrades, economic revitalisation, heritage conservation, public realm enhancements and sustainability initiatives.
Kajang’s historic commercial core was identified by the Housing and Local Government Ministry for redevelopment under a federal initiative.
Previously, MPKj president Nazli Md Taib said the RM650,000 initiative is funded under the 12 Malaysia Plan (12MP).
“All feedback will be compiled into a report, and those who submitted views will be invited to attend the investigation and public hearing committee meeting,” he said.
The Kajang town centre is among Selangor’s oldest commercial areas known for its traditional shophouses, the historic Jalan Mendaling stretch, and its famed satay.
