Melaka polls: Harapan adds three candidates to contest in 24 seats

SHAH ALAM, Oct 30 — Pakatan Harapan has named three additional candidates for the upcoming Melaka state election, bringing the coalition's total number of contested seats to 24.

Two of the new candidates are from Parti Amanah Negara. They are Jasin branch chief Aminuddin Abdul Jalil, who will contest the Sungai Rambai seat, and Masjid Tanah women’s wing chief Junainah Sahat, who will stand in Taboh Naning.

Melaka Amanah chairman Datuk Ashraf Mukhlis Minghat confirmed the nominations.

Meanwhile, Parti Keadilan Rakyat secretary-general Datuk Fuziah Salleh said they have named retired Army major Jaimi Dimon as its candidate for the Ayer Limau seat.

The latest additions bring Keadilan’s total to 10 contested seats, while Amanah and DAP will field seven candidates each.

Previously, Harapan announced that 21 candidates will be contesting in the Melaka election during its candidate announcement and election machinery launch at the Hang Jebat Stadium on Saturday (October 24).

In the 2021 Melaka state election, the coalition won five of the 28 seats, with DAP securing four and Amanah one.

The Election Commission has scheduled nomination day for tomorrow, followed by early voting on November 10 and polling day on November 14.
