Pakatan Harapan reviews potential cooperation ahead of Melaka State Election

SHAH ALAM, Sept 30 — Pakatan Harapan has yet to decide whether to cooperate with any party for the 16th Melaka State Election.

It election director Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the coalition will nevertheless examine opportunities and possibilities for cooperation before finalising its decision on the next course of action.

“We will try to look at the opportunities if there is a possibility for cooperation, but even if there is not, we still need to complete our efforts to put forward the best offer from Harapan to the people of Melaka.

“I have heard the views of Harapan Melaka, and I need to finalise them with the Central Leadership Council so that we can make a policy decision on the next step, whether we contest with an understanding with several parties or focus on our own areas,” he said.

Amirudin was speaking to the media following the launch of the Selangor Road and Highway Strategic Plan 2026-2035 (JALUR Selangor) at the State Secretariat Building today.

He added that he had also been informed that a meeting with Barisan Nasional would be held soon to determine whether there were areas that could be explored.

“If there is none, it means we will continue…we will look at it and consider cooperation.

“An important strategy for Harapan is to maximise our potential in our areas, try to avoid unnecessary clashes, and provide the best offer to the people of Melaka,” Amirudin said.

The Election Commission will hold a special meeting on Wednesday (October 7) to discuss arrangements for the 16th Melaka State Election, following the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly.

Its secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus said the meeting would be chaired by EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun.

The special meeting will discuss key dates for the Melaka State Election, including the election writ, nomination day, and polling day.

The Melaka State Legislative Assembly was dissolved with effect from September 23 to pave the way for the 16th State Election.

The state has 28 seats, while the current state government’s mandate was supposed to end on December 31 if the Assembly was not dissolved earlier.
