PETALING JAYA, Oct 1 — Negotiations on cooperation between Pakatan Harapan and other parties for the 16th Melaka State Election are expected to be decided next week.
Its election director Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said discussions with all parties, including Barisan Nasional, remained open, with priority given to securing an electoral victory while serving the people's interests.
“By next week, I think we may have something. For now, I see all possibilities as still open, and the door to negotiations also remains open.
“We are negotiating with all parties, but the priority is very simple. The first priority, of course, is victory for our side, while every party also has its own interests,” he said after officiating the opening of the Sunway Medical Centre Damansara today.
Amirudin added that political stability is an important element in shaping political cooperation, as it affects the economy and helps address various situations, including crises.
“Political stability must be a priority for every coalition that is formed. The second consideration is the benefits to the people, particularly how we want to help the poor, address housing policies, and so on.
“Thirdly, of course, it needs to produce a situation that benefits all parties,” he said.
The Election Commission (EC) will hold a special meeting on Wednesday (October 7) to discuss matters relating to the 16th Melaka State Election following the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly.
Its secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus said the meeting would be chaired by EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun.
The special meeting is expected to discuss key election dates, including the issuance of the election writ, nomination day, and polling day.
The Assembly was dissolved effective September 23 to pave the way for the state election. It has 28 seats, while the current state government's mandate would have ended on December 31 if the Assembly had not been dissolved earlier.
