Klang homeowners to enjoy green tax rebate of up to RM900

SHAH ALAM, Oct 24 — Klang homeowners who practise environmentally friendly lifestyles this year may enjoy an assessment rate rebate of up to RM900 next year, said Klang Mayor Dato’ Abd Hamid Hussain.

He added that the incentive is for people who recycle, use electric vehicles (EVs), and have solar panels installed at their homes, according to a report by The Star.

He said taxpayers’ green practices from January to December will be evaluated by the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) before rebates are granted.

“This is the first time MBDK has introduced an initiative like this. After evaluations are done, eligible taxpayers will enjoy rebates on assessment rates for the year of 2027,” he explained, saying applicants must ensure they don’t have tax arrears, provide supporting documents for verification, and that their homes are within the municipality.

Hamid said the one-off rebate is aimed at encouraging more residents to adopt sustainable lifestyles, in line with efforts to make Klang a low-carbon smart city.

The initiative is under the 2026 Selangor Budget and targets the use of green technology in residential areas.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari had announced a 100 per cent assessment rate rebate for homeowners who fulfil the conditions of green practices.

The Selangor government allocated RM1 million to four local councils, including MBDK, for the assessment rate rebate initiative.

The incentive was improved under Phase 2 of the Selangor Resilience Enhancement Package (SREP) in June, with the allocation for each council increased to RM1.5 million.

Meanwhile, Hamid said MBDK will hold lucky draws from November 1 to December 31 to encourage the early and full payment of assessment rates through its iPay portal. Sixty-five main prizes are up for grabs, including a Honda Vario motorcycle, electric scooter, smartphone, and gold bars.
