Klang residents invited to submit views on ECRL impact assessment

SHAH ALAM, Oct 24 — Klang Mayor Dato’ Abd Hamid Hussain has invited the public to submit feedback on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) stretch from Jalan Kastam to Port Klang (Section D).

He said the report can be viewed at the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) headquarters until November 17, according to a report by The Star.

“People may submit constructive views, comments or feedback throughout the exhibit. I encourage the people to take part because their opinions are essential to supporting sustainable development and environmental conservation,” he explained.

Based on an Environment Department (DOE) notice, public feedback on the EIA report may be submitted until December 2, although the exhibit at MBDK is only until November 17.

Residents may refer to notices and EIA documents on DOE’s official channels for more information on how they may submit feedback.

Hamid said the ECRL is set to improve connectivity between the peninsular east and west coasts, and provide an alternative to long-haul journeys.

He added that the rail network could stimulate the domestic and international tourism sector and improve freight transport efficiency.

“Cargo transport links through the ECRL may streamline the movement of goods, strengthen supply chains, and expand market access for manufacturers and agriculture producers,” Hamid explained.

In February last year, the Transport Ministry announced that Section D’s construction scope will be changed to a 25km twin track to allow the separate operations of the ECRL and Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) services.
