Search for Malaysians missing after Nepal flood to continue

SHAH ALAM, Oct 22 — The search for Malaysians still missing after the devastating Nepal flash flood will continue, even though the Nepali government has halted the operation, said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

He said the Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu will carry out the search in collaboration with local authorities in Nepal and trekking checkpoints along routes in the affected area, as reported by Berita Harian.

Mohamad said data from trekking checkpoints showed most of the missing Malaysians’ last known locations were along the routes affected by the deadly disaster.

"Malaysia is continuing its search mission, even though the Nepali government has now entered the recovery phase. We remain in contact with trekking checkpoints and are tracing routes taken by these Malaysians.

"We will persist in our search for this group of Malaysians, with whom contact has yet to be established, until all possible avenues for action have been exhausted,” he said during Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat today.

He was responding to Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah’s (PN-Langkawi) request for an update on Malaysians missing after the August 26 tragedy in Nepal.
