KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 — The Selangor Techsphere Summit (STS) 2026 serves as an important platform for aligning skilled workforce development with technological and industrial needs to support the inflow of high-value investments into the state.
Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC) chief executive officer Harizal Hamid said the programme, held in conjunction with the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2026, also provided opportunities for collaboration among the state government, educational institutions, and industry players.
Talent development must keep pace with technological advances to ensure Selangor has a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting industry needs and supporting the inflow of high-value investments.
“The Techsphere Summit is a segment we introduced at SIBS to demonstrate how talent development initiatives are closely linked to technology adoption.
“Talent development itself can contribute to the overall investment landscape,” he told Media Selangor after STS' closing ceremony at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre yesterday.
Harizal added that industry participation also increased to 34 exhibitors this year, up from 21 last year.
The exhibition showcased various technology fields, including artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, microcontrollers, green technology, and talent development.
“This year, we are seeing how AI is increasingly dominating various industrial sectors. In the robotics industry, for example, we can see the comprehensive use of AI, while the warehouse management industry is also moving increasingly towards data-driven digital technologies,” he said.
These developments require youths to master digital skills to ensure they can meet the needs of an evolving industry.
Looking ahead to next year, Harizal hopes that industry participation in the STS will continue to grow, alongside broader involvement from technology sectors, including the green economy.
Collaboration between the state government, educational institutions, and industry players also needs to be strengthened to ensure talent development keeps pace with technological advances and Selangor’s economic growth.
“We hope Techsphere will serve as a platform for the state government, educational institutions, and the industry to build partnerships based on their respective strengths.
“Through this collaboration, we can establish a clear ecosystem for technology and talent development,” he said.
