SHAH ALAM, Oct 8 — The benefits of the Selangor Children's Heritage Fund (TAWAS) go beyond financial assistance, symbolising a promise made by the Selangor government at the birth of the state's children that is now being fulfilled.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the commitment is now being realised through RM1,500 payouts to the first batch of TAWAS members born in 2008.
“This is not merely the distribution of financial assistance, but the fulfilment of a promise made by the state government since their birth, now being honoured as they enter adulthood,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.
On October 3, the first batch of TAWAS members received their financial benefits during the launch of the TUAH (Tuaian Anak Harapan TAWAS) programme.
At the event, Amirudin said the state government had allocated more than RM31 million to provide RM1,500 each to 21,000 recipients in the first batch of TAWAS beneficiaries this year.
A total of 370 TAWAS members from 12 state constituencies across Selangor attended the programme to receive their respective benefits.
TAWAS is a state government initiative implemented through YAWAS to provide financial benefits to Selangor-born children upon reaching the age of 18.
The programme was subsequently replaced by ANAS, which provides initial savings through the National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN) to help families prepare for their children's future education.
