KLANG, Oct 3 — The Selangor government has allocated more than RM31 million for Tabung Warisan Anak Selangor (TAWAS) payouts this year, where 21,000 recipients are set to receive RM1,500 each, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He added that 13,000 recipients have registered to claim the benefit, with the government to ramp up efforts to contact the remaining recipients in the next few months.
“Some of these participants have moved, changed their addresses and phone numbers, so we hope that whoever registered for TAWAS would contact the service centre office or the YAWAS (Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor) office for us to provide that support,” he said after officiating the payout presentation ceremony at KSL Convention Centre here today.
“We are aware that there may be some (people) who haven’t received much information, there may be some who overlooked it or are busy, so we are giving them a year to claim the RM1,500,” he explained.

Amirudin said there will be between 21,000 and 25,000 recipients in the following years, with existing funds enough for the next two to three years of payouts.
“From 2008 we have saved. From 2021 we have used those savings, we have invested them in the Selangor Advance programme, and gotten returns of around 7 to 8 per cent, and now we are giving it back,” he added.
Meanwhile, he said the current savings programme for Selangor-born children is Ilitizam Anak Selangor (ANAS), which was launched in 2022.
Under the initiative, the state government has prepared an initial fund of RM500 for each eligible child, and provided space for parents to add to those savings for their children’s education in the future.
“We have also added support for university students, including through the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC) and TVET programmes,” Amirudin said.
TAWAS is a state government initiative under YAWAS where registered Selangor-born children are able to claim a payout when they turn 18. It was replaced with ANAS, which provides initial savings under the National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN) for children’s future education.
