Meru’s rapid growth must leave room for recreation, says rep

SHAH ALAM, Oct 6 — More recreational spaces are needed in the Meru state constituency to provide places for community interaction, particularly in increasingly densely populated areas.

Meru assemblywoman Mariam Abdul Rashid said such facilities were important for residents’ comfort as the area faces increasingly rapid development.

“I hope more suitable recreational spaces can be created in Meru, either through the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) or considered under the Selangor Budget 2027.

“This is important to ensure that physical development in Meru keeps pace with the social needs of residents,” she said recently on Media Selangor’s SKOP Belanjawan Selangor 2027 programme.

At the same time, she proposed strengthening the digitalisation of public services, including providing free internet access for young people.

“Although there is a NADI there, it is still not sufficient to provide easy access to the internet, particularly for young people,” she said.

Mariam also stressed that new developments should be monitored by the relevant authorities to ensure the area’s continued progress benefits residents without compromising their comfort.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari is scheduled to table the Selangor Budget 2027 at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly on November 13.

Selangor allocated RM3.23 billion under its 2026 budget, comprising RM1.86 billion, or 57.6 per cent, for operating expenditure and RM1.37 billion, or 42.4 per cent, for development.
