KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 — Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, is currently testing five electric buses (EVs) on the Sunway Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line in preparation for the operation of the company's 250 new electric buses.
It said the phased procurement of these new electric buses is part of the company's efforts to improve public transport service quality through modern, energy-efficient, and sustainable technology.
“Through these trials, Rapid Bus is evaluating various aspects of electric bus performance, including energy efficiency, battery performance, driving range, and charging systems, as well as the passenger experience regarding comfort, ride smoothness, and noise levels.
“In addition to operational testing, Rapid Bus is also making the necessary preparations to support the wider adoption of electric buses, covering aspects such as charging infrastructure, maintenance facilities, technical training, and related operational requirements,” Rapid Bus said in a statement today.
Its chief executive officer Syahrul Azmir Ahmad Zaki said the trials represent a crucial step in ensuring smooth electric bus operations before the fleet is deployed to other routes.
The acquisition of these 250 new electric buses is a significant move towards modernising the Rapid Bus fleet, improving service quality for commuters, and developing a more sustainable public transport system.
“Through the trials currently underway at Sunway BRT, we can assess bus performance under real-world operating conditions and gather the necessary data before a wider rollout.
“At the same time, we want to ensure that commuters continue to enjoy safe, comfortable, and reliable services,” he said.
The procurement of the 250 new EV buses aligns with the company's plan to provide a more modern, sustainable public transport system that meets future mobility needs.
