SHAH ALAM, Sept 27 — The state has a new destination for equestrian sports development, with the launch of the Royal Selangor Polo and Equestrian Club (RSPEC) in Cyberjaya yesterday.
The launch was officiated by Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, who was accompanied by Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin.
The event was held in conjunction with the Selangor Ruler’s Silver Jubilee.
In a Facebook post, the Selangor Royal Office said RSPEC combines equestrian heritage with recreational facilities and community-based experiences, creating a new stage for sports development and sports tourism in Selangor.
“RSPEC was developed with a clear mission, which is to elevate polo and equestrian (sports) to a higher level and provide a sports destination that is open, active, and relevant to the community.
“This complex includes a complete polo field with a 1km surrounding sand track, 136 horse stables, and indoor and outdoor arenas,” read the statement.
The venue was developed according to international standards to facilitate the organisation of prestigious polo and equestrian championships.
The statement said RSPEC is meant to expand community involvement in polo and equestrian sports and become a recreational destination.
During the launch, Their Royal Highnesses surveyed the various equestrian facilities at the complex.
Sultan Sharafuddin also officiated a horse sculpture by contemporary artist Dato’ Yusof Ghani.
Their Royal Highnesses were welcomed by RSPEC president Engku Maharaja Lela Setia Paduka Dato’ Syed Budriz Putra Jamalullail and RSPEC deputy president Datuk Seri Irmohizam Ibrahim.
