SUBANG, Oct 1 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj spent time with 149 orphans through the Kembara Semenanjung Joyride Flight Experience programme at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (LTSAAS) in Subang today.
Istana Alam Shah said the programme officially marked the start of the month-long Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the Reign of His Royal Highness throughout October.
The Sultan, accompanied by the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, departed at 9am to see off the orphans as they embarked on the special flight experience.
The programme, organised by Tourism Malaysia, involved orphans from 29 welfare homes coordinated by the Selangor Youth Community (SAY) and Yayasan Islam Darul Ehsan (YIDE).
They travelled on a Batik Air Boeing 737 MAX 8 on a one-hour flight through Penang airspace to Langkawi, Kedah, before returning to LTSAAS.
It said His Royal Highness wanted to give the children a travel and flight experience they might rarely have the chance to enjoy, while creating meaningful memories.
“The exposure to new experiences, social interaction, and outdoor activities is also expected to boost their self-confidence and inspire them to remain motivated as they move forward in life.
“At the same time, the programme fosters a spirit of love, togetherness, and community concern for the welfare and well-being of orphans,” Istana Alam Shah said in a statement.
The programme also provided participants with an opportunity to appreciate the values of patriotism and nurture their love for the royal institution in Selangor.
The attendance of Sultan Sharafuddin alongside Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and Tengku Amir Shah also reflected the royal institution’s continued concern for orphans' well-being, ensuring they too are cared for and included in the historic celebrations.
