SEPANG, Oct 4 — The Royal Selangor Polo and Equestrian Club (RSPEC) aims to provide more opportunities for the public to learn about, experience, and participate in polo and equestrian sports, particularly among the younger generation.
Its president Datuk Syed Budriz Putra Jamalullail said the club is not merely an exclusive membership club but a public on that seeks to bridge the community and the world of polo and equestrian sports.
“Moving forward, RSPEC will expand its sports, educational, and community programmes to give more people, particularly the younger generation, the opportunity to learn about, try, and participate in polo and equestrian sports.
“We hope these ongoing efforts will contribute to the development of new talent, strengthen the equestrian sports ecosystem and establish RSPEC as an open, dynamic sports and recreational destination that benefits the community,” he said.
Syed Budriz was speaking during the RSPEC Royal Gala Dinner held in conjunction with the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj's Silver Jubilee celebrations last night.
He added that the construction of the polo and equestrian club aligns with His Royal Highness' aspirations and mission for the state to have comprehensive and comfortable sports facilities.
“Following discussions, Sepang was identified as a suitable district. The 28-hectare club has its own aspirations, in addition to creating world-class facilities.
“Physical construction work, which began in November 2024, includes a polo field, sand track, 136 horse stables, indoor and outdoor arenas, as well as the Sejiwa Social Club, which houses eight pickleball courts,” he said.

Meanwhile, former national equestrian champion Datuk Qabil Ambak Mahammad Fathil said the club's opening will provide more people with the opportunity to take up the sport.
“Equestrian sport has actually been part of my family for a long time, starting with my father, brother, and younger sibling. I hope this will serve as an example for other families to take up equestrian sports.
“With this club being open to the public, it provides an opportunity for people to get involved in the sport. Many may be afraid to try it and assume that the sport is only for certain groups,” he said.
Earlier, the Ruler officiated the Selangor Sultan’s Silver Jubilee Polo Championship Cup, which will be held next year.
His Royal Highness also presented the Lifetime Achievement Award (Polo) to the Temenggong of Perlis Dato’ Seri Diraja Syed Amir Abidin Jamalullail and Tengku Panglima Besar Tan Sri Tengku Alam Shah.
The Lifetime Achievement Award (Equestrian) was presented to Tan Sri Mahamad Fathil and his three children: Dato’ Quzier Ambak, Qabil Ambak, and Quzandria Nur.
Also in attendance were the Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and the Tengku Ampuan of Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.
Also present were the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah and the Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Ibni Al-Sultan Abdullah.
