SHAH ALAM, Sept 26 — Selangor is taking a strategic approach to engage with various segments of the creative industry to ensure the Selangor Creative Economy Action Plan can be implemented comprehensively.
State executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said this year's focus is the batik industry, encouraging entrepreneurs to showcase their products.
“We are currently working to engage with the segments we have identified. Last year, we started with the launch, while this year we are focusing on implementation.
“This year, we are focusing on those involved in the batik industry as we want to encourage entrepreneurs to showcase their respective products.
“InsyaAllah (God willing), we will subsequently explore more potential segments, including short film production and animation. We are taking a holistic approach and engaging with all segments of the creative economy,” he said.
Najwan was speaking to the media following the 2027 Selangor Budget engagement session with Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari at the Selangor International Trade and Exhibition Centre yesterday.
Last year, Amirudin launched the Selangor Creative Economy Action Plan 2025-2035 as a 10-year development framework for the sector.
It was formulated to position Selangor as a competitive regional creative economy hub globally, while contributing to sustainable economic growth.
The plan outlines three main pillars: digital and multimedia, arts and culture, and cultural heritage.
Commenting on the proposal to establish a Creative Economy Council, the councillor said the matter is still under consideration to ensure its objectives and implementation structure are appropriate.
“So far, we have yet to establish it as we want to assess its suitability and ensure there are clear targets.
“We want every establishment or action taken to have an impact. For now, we are still considering the matter, but we will identify more realistic methods or approaches to help drive the creative economy in Selangor,” he said.
