PETALING JAYA, Sept 26 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) is ready to support the state government’s goal of developing Petaling Jaya as a creative economy hub, said its Deputy Mayor Sharinaz Samsudin.
The local authority welcomed the proposal, as the creative economy is increasingly aligned with current economic demand.
“For your information, regarding the economic hub, MBPJ certainly welcomes it. This is because the creative economy is the way of the current economy’s demand at present.
“As one of the ways to promote this economy, MBPJ also developed an entrepreneur unit,” she told the media during the Lake Day and Malaysia Clean-Up Day celebration at Taman Aman, Petaling Jaya today.
Sharinaz added that the council also has a committee and strategic plan focusing on the creative economy, indicating that MBPJ is prepared to move in that direction.
“So, for that, we also have a committee and strategic plan regarding the creative economy that has already been established at MBPJ. It shows that we are indeed ready towards the creative economy,” she said.
The remarks come after state executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi Mohd Najwan Halimi proposed that districts could be developed as economic and creative-economy hubs.
Sharinaz noted that MBPJ’s existing entrepreneurship initiatives could help support the development of the creative economy at the city level.
