SHAH ALAM, Sept 24 — The Selangor caregiving training module is expected to be finalised by the third quarter of next year, targeting family and professional caregivers.
State executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari said the development of the comprehensive module in collaboration with The Asia Foundation will begin with data mapping, before the training content is developed according to several caregiving categories.
She said the categories would cover emotional, physical and mental aspects to ensure the module meets the actual needs of the caregiving sector, including the skills, knowledge and competencies required by caregivers.
“The caregiving training module is currently at the discussion stage and we will divide it into three phases. First, we will carry out mapping.
“After that, we will draft the module covering several categories, including caregiving from emotional, physical and mental perspectives, before it is eventually ready for use,” she told Media Selangor.
Anfaal said the module, which will be accessible online, will also target caregivers who look after family members at home, including the elderly and persons with disabilities, while technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programmes will target individuals seeking to become professional caregivers.
“For the caregiving training module, it can be accessed online, including in video format, covering various related topics, and we are targeting family caregivers. This means caregivers who are not working at care homes or as professionals.
“For professional training, participants who undergo the course will be trained to provide professional caregiving services at elderly care homes or on a one-to-one basis at private residences.
“Once they have completed the training, they can provide the service professionally at elderly care homes or as a one-to-one service at private homes.”
Anfaal said collaboration with Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) is also being considered to allow the module to be offered as a certification or diploma programme, depending on its suitability.
Previously, Anfaal said the Selangor caregiving training programme would be developed in three phases under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Wanita Berdaya Selangor and The Asia Foundation.
The first phase will focus on developing the syllabus and modules, followed by digitising the content and implementing a pilot training programme in the second phase, while the third phase will involve refining the curriculum for professional certification.
The curriculum refinement will be carried out by an expert panel tasked with reviewing, refining and validating each module input to ensure it is aligned with current regulations and industry requirements.
