SHAH ALAM, Sept 22 — The Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) today said it took immediate action following complaints from parents over food vendors operating outside SK Pandamaran Jaya.
MBDK said this is a serious concern as there are risks of food poisoning and traffic congestion, as well as concerns over student nutrition.
The council said food vendors must have received the typhoid vaccine (TY2) and taken food handling courses in accordance with the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.
“Failure to comply can result in heavy fines by the Health Ministry,” it said in a Facebook post today.
MBDK also highlighted contamination risks when food is exposed to dust, vehicle fumes and heat outside the school, which could also lead to legal and civil action in the event of food poisoning.
“Selling food in front of the school gate (after the school session ends) worsens traffic congestion and endangers students.
“Selling junk food or high-sugar drinks outside the canteen is not encouraged and is against the Education Ministry’s strict guidelines,” it said.
Following parents’ complaints, MBDK held a coordination meeting with Pandamaran Jaya Village Development and Security Committee chairman Hussain Salleh to advise and warn vendors to immediately disperse and avoid causing disturbances.
“All vendors involved have cooperated and agreed,” MBDK said, adding that monitoring would continue and firm enforcement action would be taken if vendors start hawking their wares again.
