KLANG, Nov 6 — The Royal Klang City Council (MBDK) has enhanced flood preparedness in the district, focusing on eight high-risk areas, particularly in anticipation of the high-tide phenomenon expected from tomorrow to Wednesday (November 11).
Klang Mayor Dato' Abd Hamid Hussain said measures include strengthening drainage systems, installing flap gates, and increasing monitoring in flood-prone areas.
"All relevant departments must remain on high alert and ensure that every complaint received is addressed with appropriate action, especially given the current unpredictable weather conditions.
“Residents living in low-lying areas, near rivers, or in locations prone to flooding are also advised to make early preparations for the possibility of water overflow," he said.
A coordination meeting on flood issues with state executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato' Izham Hashim has identified eight locations requiring special attention during the implementation period.
They include the Bukit Raja intersection, Taman Mutiara Bukit Raja, Taman Melawis, Kampung Bukit Kapar, Taman Meru Indah, Taman Seri Kerayong, Taman Daya Maju, and Jalan Haji Salleh in Pekan Meru.
Abd Hamid said the actions include upgrading drainage systems, repairing discharge pipes, maintaining retention ponds, and ensuring developers follow approved drainage and erosion control plans.
In a related development, MBDK’s PANTAS (Rapid Response Squad) received 83 disaster-related complaints between Wednesday (November 4) and yesterday.
Of the total, 62 cases have been resolved, 16 are currently being addressed, and five others require special assistance.
These complaints involved incidents such as fallen trees, flash floods, roofs blown off by strong winds, toppled utility poles, and landslides.
"PANTAS, in collaboration with the Engineering Department, the Landscape Department, and the Environmental Services Department, will continue to strengthen its state of readiness to ensure immediate action can be taken in the event of any disaster," he said.
Consequently, Abd Hamid advised residents to stay updated on weather conditions and official announcements from the authorities, and to keep important documents and valuables in a safe place.
"Residents are also advised to move their vehicles to higher ground and to avoid locations in at-risk areas, and to prepare emergency supplies in the event of a flood," he said.
Owners of vehicles or property damaged by fallen trees under MBDK’s jurisdiction may submit claims for compensation to the relevant local authority.
"Affected owners must first file a police report before submitting their claims, along with the necessary documentation, to MBDK for review and assessment in accordance with established procedures," Abd Hamid said.
He also urged the public to cooperate by reporting any emergency incidents through official channels, ensuring residents' safety remains safeguarded.
