SHAH ALAM, Oct 30 — The Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) was given the honour of presenting its development plan for the municipality, at the United Cities and Local Governments Asia-Pacific (UCLG ASPAC) Haikou forum in Hainan, China, yesterday.
At the summit, Klang Mayor Dato’ Abd Hamid Hussain presented the “Klang Royal City: Balancing Port Growth with a Green, Smart and Inclusive Future” plan.
Hamid said the plan features Port Klang’s strategic position as Malaysia’s maritime gateway and its role in the shipping, logistics, container handling, industrial, and international trade sectors.
He added that the Klang Royal City Local Plan 2035 (Amendment 1) considers the industrial sector’s growth, including the presence of 36 industrial areas and new ones under development.
“The environmental sustainability aspect is also still a priority under the Low-Carbon Cities Action Plan, river cleanup programmes, and community involvement.
“This effort is also supported by strategic partnerships and stronger governance through the ISO 37001:2016 Anti-Bribery Management System certification,” he said.
Hamid explained that economic and industrial growth must be balanced with environmental conservation and community well-being to ensure Klang remains competitive and comfortable.
He also said balanced growth is essential to ensuring the people enjoy benefits from urban economic progress without compromising sustainability for future generations.
“Our participation in UCLG ASPAC Haikou is a platform for MBDK to introduce the Klang Royal City’s potential to the international community.
“It also opens doors for experience sharing and best practices in urban development, especially on sustainability, the use of smart approaches, and community inclusivity,” Hamid added.
UCLG ASPAC Haikou, which focuses on building a future of green, smart and inclusive cities in the Asia-Pacific region, started on Wednesday and ended today.
