KLANG, Sept 19 — GM Klang Wholesale City continues its efforts to promote environmental cleanliness through the Fun & Freshen Up! 2.0 programme in Bandar Botanic here today.
The programme, organised in collaboration with the Malaysian Wholesalers Association and with the support of the Pahlawan Bumi Association, was held in conjunction with Malaysia Clean-Up Day 2026 and Earth Warriors Day 2026.
GM Klang Corporate Communications and Public Relations Department senior manager Norsuhaida Othman said this year’s programme was not limited to the GM Klang area but also covered the surrounding areas.
“We are not merely collecting rubbish, but also raising awareness that people should not be ashamed to do so. GM Klang is very excited about this year’s programme as it received support not only from traders but also the local community.
“The number of participants has also increased, from 30 volunteers initially to more than 50 individuals now. We also encourage volunteers to bring their children along so that they are not solely focused on gadgets,” she said when met at the programme.
Norsuhaida said the corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme will continue to be held annually, covering cleanliness activities, assistance for underprivileged groups and community programmes.
“Every year, we organise CSR programmes, including cleanliness activities, helping those in need and bringing the community together for festivals and celebrations,” she said.
Meanwhile, Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) N49B councillor Azwan Adam said maintaining cleanliness should not be placed entirely under the responsibility of local authorities.
“In line with the message ‘our area, our responsibility’, programmes involving non-governmental organisations should be continued and joined by more members of the local community.
“Cleanliness is not the responsibility of individuals alone but requires cooperation from the local community.”
Azwan said involving children in clean-up programmes is important to instil awareness from an early age about the importance of maintaining environmental cleanliness and avoiding littering.
He also hoped more companies will organise similar programmes and expand their implementation to other communities.
