KLANG, Sept 1 — The facade of GM Klang’s Block B was transformed into a giant digital art canvas with the launch of Terang Kentara, a large-scale projection mapping showcase blending digital art, visual technology and local identity. On the same evening, GM Klang also unveiled Port Seni, a new creative hub bringing together art, culture, creative entrepreneurship and community under one roof.

Through Terang Kentara, graphics, animation, lighting and music are mapped onto the building’s architectural structure to create an immersive visual experience. A key highlight is the presentation of 40 artworks by children from the Terang Junior programme, themed “Surprising Selangor”. Originally created on paper, the artworks have been transformed into digital visuals and projected onto GM Klang’s façade throughout the event, giving the young participants and their families the opportunity to see their imagination brought to life on the scale of an entire building.

GM Klang general manager Chloe Tan Siang Hui said Terang Kentara forms part of the organisation’s ongoing efforts to enrich the visitor experience and reimagine how commercial spaces can be used more creatively.

“For us, the true value of Terang Kentara goes beyond the scale of the projection mapping. It is about how technology can be harnessed to give local creativity a bigger stage. When children’s artworks can be showcased across a building façade and enjoyed by the wider community, it demonstrates how a commercial space can also become a platform that celebrates talent, stories and local identity.

“Terang Kentara adds a new dimension to the GM Klang experience, and we intend to continue introducing more programmes, attractions and creative collaborations that give visitors new reasons to come and return,” she said.

“As a tourism ambassador for Klang, we want GM Klang to play an active role in strengthening the city’s appeal. Klang has a distinctive heritage and identity, and contemporary experiences such as Terang Kentara can complement these strengths by creating new reasons for people to explore the city, while helping to stimulate visitation, local activity and the surrounding economy,” she added.

Throughout the event, visitors can also enjoy a lively line-up of food trucks, creative workshops, interactive activities, cultural performances and community booths. Held in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026 and Visit Selangor Year 2026, Terang Kentara supports efforts to showcase Klang and Selangor through a contemporary blend of heritage, creativity and urban experiences.

Port Seni: A hub for local creativity, culture and community

Also launched on the same evening was Port Seni, a new creative hub at Pavilion 5, Block C, built around the pillars of Art, Culture and Community. Port Seni serves as a meeting point between creativity, heritage and commerce, bringing together local artisans and entrepreneurs alongside a curated selection of art, crafts and creative products that reflect the identity and character of Selangor.

Going beyond the conventional retail experience, Port Seni will be activated through art exhibitions, interactive workshops, creative demonstrations and themed weekly bazaars, creating a more dynamic community experience.

For artisans and creative entrepreneurs, Port Seni provides access to a wider audience while offering opportunities to introduce their brands, test market response and develop new collaborations. At the same time, it adds another dimension to the GM Klang visitor experience by bringing art and culture closer to its established commercial ecosystem.

“GM Klang has long played a role in supporting the growth of wholesalers and retailers. Through Port Seni, we are extending the strength of that ecosystem into the creative sector by connecting local talent with new markets and opportunities. We see tremendous potential when art, heritage and entrepreneurship grow together, not only to enrich the visitor experience, but also to create more sustainable economic value for the creative community,” said Tan.

The simultaneous launch of Terang Kentara and Port Seni marks another step in GM Klang’s transformation into a dynamic hybrid destination where wholesale and retail commerce converge with lifestyle, arts, tourism and community engagement.

The public can experience Terang Kentara for free from August 29 to September 13, daily from 8pm to 10pm at Dataran GM Klang, Bandar Botanic, Klang. Visitors can also explore Port Seni at Pavilion 5, Block C, GM Klang.
