SHAH ALAM, Sept 19 — Media Selangor clinched five awards at the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and Media Synergy Gala Night 2025, which recognised the achievements of media practitioners in several categories.
The awards were won by journalists Siti Sofia Md Nasir and Siti Nadiah Ahmad Zamlus, as well as photographer Mohammad Raheemie Arifin, while Media Selangor also received the Mayor’s Special Award.
Sofia won first place in the Most Digital News Reports and Most News Coverage categories for reports titled EXCO: Festival Pasar Saloma Hujung Bulan Ini, Himpun Makanan Warisan, Popular and MBSA Diiktiraf PBT Pertama Terima Sijil Patuh Syariah Dalam Amalan Kewangan.
She said cooperation between local authorities and the media is important as media practitioners play a role in conveying issues and the people’s voices to the authorities.
“This recognition gives me additional encouragement to continue producing quality and impactful coverage, including highlighting issues related to MBSA,” she said after the event.
Meanwhile, Raheemie won first place in the Best Photojournalism category for his work titled Taman Rekreasi Kucing Catopia Shah Alam.
“I greatly appreciate the recognition from MBSA as it gives us as media practitioners an opportunity to showcase our work and demonstrates that our efforts and commitment in covering various issues have received attention.
“This award also motivates me to continue improving the quality of my work, produce better and higher-quality pieces, and provide coverage that benefits the community in the future.”
Overall, Sofia took home RM3,000 in cash and two trophies from the two awards, with each award carrying a RM1,500 prize.
Raheemie received RM1,000 in cash and a trophy for the Best Photojournalism award.
In the broadcasting category, Nadiah won first place in the Best Television Broadcasting category for her report titled Mesin Sisa Minyak Jana Wang Tunai. She takes home RM1,500 in prize money.
Media Selangor also received the Mayor’s Special Award, along with RM2,000 in prize money.
The Gala Night was held as an appreciation for media practitioners who cover and report on developments involving the local authority’s administration.
