SHAH ALAM, Sept 17 — Sewage overflow due to a clogged pipe is the cause behind Tasik Wawasan’s black and smelly water and the discovery of dead fish in the lake, said the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ).
It said an inspection with Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd (IWK) revealed that a sewerage line near Pangsapuri Wawasan was backed up, causing sewage to overflow from the manhole and into the nearby drain system.
“Checks also found damage to the pipe in the strata area’s drain that could have contributed to the incident,” it added in a statement today.
After the inspection, IWK cleaned up the manhole and the sewage is no longer overflowing into the drain system, with the consortium to perform further checks in the area to identify whether there are other causes.
MBSJ said it has expanded its investigation to Flat RPKR 500 in Taman Wawasan and has found several locations with modified sewerage pipes that could have contributed to the pollution of Tasik Wawasan.
“MBSJ has ordered the joint management body of Flat RPKR 500, Taman Wawasan, to perform immediate repairs at the locations identified, especially on drain and pipe systems in strata areas,” it added, saying it is coordinating action with the Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) and National Water Services Commission (SPAN).
The council said preventive measures are being taken.
“MBSJ will keep monitoring repairs and Tasik Wawasan and coordinate action with parties concerned until this issue is addressed,” it added.
