SHAH ALAM, Sept 16 – Efforts to strengthen Gunung Gap in Hulu Selangor as a biodiversity conservation and ecotourism destination are being stepped up through collaboration among various agencies, including on trail safety and community participation.
The Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) said the effort was highlighted during a Conservation Visit Programme with Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah on Sept 13.
The programme provided participants with exposure to the ecosystem and biodiversity of Gunung Gap, as well as tree-planting and hiking activities and briefings on wildlife along the trail.
“The programme also showcased the spirit of collaboration among various parties in strengthening conservation efforts, trail safety, environmental awareness and community participation in protecting Selangor’s natural heritage,” MPHS said in a Facebook post.
MPHS said developing high-impact ecotourism experiences was also a key focus to ensure the area’s natural heritage is utilised sustainably.
The programme was attended by representatives from the Hulu Selangor District Office, Wildlife and National Parks Department (PERHILITAN), Public Works Department (JKR), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Selangor Forestry Department, Civil Defence Force (APM) and Fire and Rescue Department.
MPHS said cooperation between government departments, agencies and strategic partners was important to ensure conservation and ecotourism development efforts at Gunung Gap are carried out in a planned and sustainable manner.
