SHAH ALAM, Oct 28 — Police yesterday arrested a man suspected of impersonating an aide to Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah and using the ruse to deceive people in vehicle and property sales and purchases.
According to a Harian Metro report, Selangor police chief Dato’ Shazeli Kahar said the suspect, who was hiding in a house believed to be owned by an acquaintance, was nabbed in Johor Bahru at around 5pm.
Shazeli said police located the self-employed suspect, who is in his 40s, after a public tip-off. The suspect had been on the run since October 13.
“The main suspect was arrested alongside his acquaintances, a pair of siblings, who are believed to have been complicit in helping conceal him.
“The siblings include a 26-year-old woman, who was arrested in Shah Alam, and her 27-year-old brother, who was arrested in Johor,” he said today at the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters.
Shazeli added that the suspect’s fraudulent activities spanned Kuala Lumpur, Kedah, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Perlis, and Selangor.
“The suspect employed a consistent modus operandi to deceive his victims.
“Selangor police are collaborating with Bukit Aman and other state police contingents to track down remaining suspects believed to be involved who are still at large,” he added.
He also said the main suspect has no connection to the Selangor Royal institution.
Previously, Shazeli said the suspect allegedly used photographs of Tengku Amir Shah and posed as his aide-de-camp to offer vehicles and houses for sale, resulting in losses of RM960,020. He said the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code, following 15 police reports received across Selangor.
