Istana Alam Shah warns public against conman duping the public as palace bodyguard

SHAH ALAM, Oct 19 — The Selangor Royal Palace (Istana Alam Shah) has advised the public to verify information before engaging with anyone claiming to hold a position or have a connection to the royal institution.

The advisory followed police reports about an individual who had claimed to be a personal bodyguard to the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, allegedly to deceive members of the public in transactions involving land and luxury vehicles.

The Office of the Sultan of Selangor noted that the individual used this ruse for personal gain.

“The Istana requests the public’s cooperation to verify with the Palace administration any claims made by individuals — who invoke the Palace’s name — regarding their purported status or affiliation when conducting any business,” said the Palace in a statement yesterday.

It added that the Palace views this matter with the utmost seriousness and has entrusted the investigation entirely to the Royal Malaysia Police to ensure a comprehensive, fair, and transparent process.

The Palace emphasised that it will not protect any individuals found to be involved in the case.

Meanwhile, Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the Sultan of Selangor’s Security Control Office at Istana Mestika lodged a police report on Thursday (October 15) over the alleged impersonation.

“The report concerns the misuse of the Raja Muda of Selangor’s photograph by the owner of a Threads account, ‘dwan_hamid’, who allegedly posed as the Raja Muda’s aide-de-camp to deceive members of the public in property and vehicle transactions.

“An investigation paper has been opened under Section 420 of the Penal Code, and efforts are underway to trace the suspect,” he said in a statement today.

Shazeli also advised the public to remain vigilant and verify claims through official channels before making financial transactions to avoid falling victim to scams.
