SHAH ALAM, Sept 14 — The need to build a religious primary school (SRA) in Damansara Damai should be given attention in the 2027 Selangor Budget, given the lack of such a facility in the area.
Bukit Lanjan assemblywoman Pua Pei Ling said the construction of the school had been consistently raised during every State Legislative Assembly sitting since 2023, as it was among the most pressing needs of residents.
She said the project application had also been included in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), but hoped its implementation could be expedited so construction could begin as early as next year.
“If possible, the 2027 Selangor Budget should approve this project so that we can begin work on the site next year, as constructing a school takes at least two years,” she said during Media Selangor’s SKOP programme recently.
Pua said existing religious education facilities operating under mosques or private institutions in Damansara Damai are unable to cope with the growing number of students.
“There is no religious primary school at all in Damansara Damai. There are only those operating under mosques or private institutions, but they simply cannot accommodate the number of students. The need is very urgent.”
She said the provision of educational facilities should not be viewed based on the race or background of residents, but should instead be prioritised for the future of the next generation.
“Education is a priority for the future of all our children. Regardless of race or ethnicity, as long as the community needs an educational platform, we must provide it.
“As an elected representative, I have a responsibility to bring the residents’ voices to the State Legislative Assembly so that their aspiration to have an SRA in Damansara Damai can be realised,” she said.
