Selangor harnesses AI to sharpen data analysis, public services

SHAH ALAM, Sept 9 — Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to bridge gaps in government data analysis while improving the efficiency of public service delivery.

Innovation cultivation executive councillor Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said the technology could help overcome constraints in data analysis, including reliance on specialists who are difficult and costly to recruit.

“Data analysis presents a major challenge and gap, but with AI, we can bridge that gap.

“Specialists such as data scientists are expensive and very difficult to find, but with AI systems, we can address this issue,” he told Media Selangor.

He was speaking after officiating the inaugural Selangor AI Forum, which drew about 180 participants to the Selangor Human Resource Development Centre (SHRDC) here today.

Mohammad Fahmi said the adoption of AI in government administration must ultimately translate into direct benefits for the public, particularly by shortening the time taken to deliver services.

He said the state government would establish a baseline for the time taken to deliver each service before measuring reductions achieved following the adoption of AI technology.

“The use of AI must ultimately bring benefits back to the people. In terms of government services to the public, we must reduce the time taken to deliver them.

“We will establish a baseline and then measure the reduction from that baseline through the use of AI,” he said.

At the same time, he said the Selangor AI Forum served as a platform to bring together the government, industry and academia to share the latest developments and applications of the technology.

“We organised this forum to raise awareness of the latest developments in the use of AI in Selangor.

“It also provides a platform for discussions bringing together private companies, academic experts and state government subsidiaries to examine and share the latest developments in AI applications in Malaysia and around the world,” he said.

Meanwhile, the winners of the Selangor AI Hackathon 2026, held last week, will be celebrated at a dinner tonight.

The Selangor AI Hackathon 2026 and Selangor AI Forum 2026 are among the state government’s efforts to strengthen the AI ecosystem by connecting technological solutions with real-world challenges, government priorities, industry innovation and workforce development.
