SHAH ALAM, Sept 10 — The state government is tapping young talent in artificial intelligence (AI) to help develop solutions to issues and complaints faced by local authorities (PBT).
Innovation executive councillor Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said the Selangor AI Hackathon and Selangor AI Forum 2026 served as platforms to identify skilled talent capable of helping the state government with problem-solving and AI-driven analytics.
“This is the first year of an AI competition organised by the Selangor government and Selangor Human Resource Development Centre (SHRDC), together with private companies, and it received an encouraging response with 88 entries.
“Participants were given challenges based on actual complaints received by PBT and had only three hours to develop solutions to those problems,” he said.
He said this when met after attending the closing ceremony of the Selangor AI Hackathon and Forum 2026 at Concorde Hotel here yesterday.
Mohammad Fahmi said the participants, the majority of whom were young people, demonstrated that Selangor had home-grown talent capable of mastering AI technology.
He said the state government would hold discussions with local authorities to identify how AI could be used to analyse issues such as floods, illegal dumping sites and potholes.
Mohammad Fahmi said data generated from the analyses could also be translated into information that was easier to understand and shared openly with the public, particularly Selangor residents.
The Selangor Hackathon 2026, held on August 21, received an encouraging response with 88 entries. Participants were given challenges based on real-world issues in Selangor, including damaged streetlights, waste management and disasters.
Meanwhile, the Selangor AI Forum 2026, held yesterday, brought together about 180 participants comprising corporate executives, industry players and Selangor civil servants to discuss AI developments and opportunities, as well as the need for its wider adoption.
