SHAH ALAM, Sept 9 — Selangor is aiming for all 12 of its local councils to reach Smart City Level 1 status by year-end, said state executive councillor for Islam and innovation Dr Fahmi Ngah.
He said only two councils haven’t achieved the accreditation, while the other 10 have reached Level 1 and even Level 2, out of the system’s four levels.
“Applications for both of these local councils have been submitted, and God willing, in October, there will be an announcement. Maybe we will have all of Selangor’s local councils at Level 1 or even higher,” he told Media Selangor when met after officiating the Selangor AI Forum here today, adding that the councils already at Level 2 will be boosted to Level 3.
He said the state’s smart city agenda will be reinforced with the integration of AI, especially to improve data analytics and expedite public service delivery systems, which must translate into tangible impacts.
“The service (delivery) period between government and people must and will be shortened. We will establish a baseline and then look into reducing the period using AI,” he added.
Fahmi also said AI can help address constraints in recruiting experts like data scientists, which is costly.
On data centres, said each plan will consider water and electricity requirements so it does not affect the people’s allocations.
“If it comes to the need for data storage and digital infrastructure to allow the state government to use AI, there is a need, but that doesn’t mean we have to build a new data centre for our own use,” Fahmi added.
The inaugural state-level Selangor AI Forum gathered private sector players, academicians and state government subsidiaries to share the latest on AI technology in Malaysia and globally.
