State to scrutinise performance of all local councils, says exco

SHAH ALAM, Sept 10 — The Selangor government will review and monitor the performance of all local authorities (PBT), including their officers and council members.

Local government executive councillor Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said the review was aimed at ensuring taxpayers received satisfactory services and strengthening public confidence in local councils.

“I will select several councils and make the rounds to identify any outstanding issues. I will try to help wherever I can.

“I will review and monitor the performance of all PBT, council members and officers. We want to ensure that all outstanding issues are resolved,” he said in a Facebook post.

Ng said the monitoring would help ensure that Selangor’s local councils served as an effective front line for the State Government and strengthened public confidence.

“We want PBT to have an efficient delivery system that is friendly to the people and investors,” he said.

Previously, Ng said the state government would conduct an independent survey as early as next year to assess public satisfaction with the performance and quality of services provided by local councils in Selangor.

He said preparations were under way to appoint an independent body to conduct the survey involving service users, taxpayers and the public.
