SHAH ALAM, August 10 — The Selangor government is planning to develop a single super app that will integrate complaints and other services provided by all 12 local authorities (PBTs) in the state, said state executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim.
He said the proposed application is aimed at addressing confusion among residents who currently have to use different applications to access services or lodge complaints with the various local authorities.
"The initiative will allow complaints and other local council-related services to be channelled through a single platform before being referred with the relevant local authority for action.
“Sometimes, there are two or three applications for each municipality, and this can cause confusion among users,” he said at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here today.
He was responding to questions raised by Gombak Setia assemblyman Muhammad Hilman Idham on the efficiency of local authority services and confusion among residents over which local council is responsible for maintaining their areas.
Ng said the proposed super app is part of the state’s efforts to integrate digital services and further strengthen the Smart Selangor and Smart City agenda.
He added the state is continuously improving its digital systems to ensure residents could deal with local councils in a faster, easier and more efficient manner.
Ng also acknowledged that digitalisation must not exclude residents who are less familiar with technology, particularly senior citizens.
"Local councils should continue providing physical counters so residents could receive services manually while being guided on how to use digital applications.
He added that the state is monitoring the digital platforms used by local councils to ensure they are cost-effective, perform well and provide quality services.
"The state’s broader local council reform agenda also focuses on speeding up service delivery, standardising service standards, expanding digitalisation and strengthening performance monitoring across local authorities," he said.
