SHAH ALAM, Sept 2 — The SRG Esports School 2026 programme is providing young Selangor talent with an early pathway to pursue professional careers in the esports industry.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said exposure through programmes such as the initiative was important as the esports industry today is no longer limited to careers as professional players.

Instead, he said, the industry also offers opportunities in coaching, broadcasting, content creation, team management and digital marketing.

“May the experience gained throughout this programme be your first step towards going further in the esports industry,” he said in a Facebook post.

Amirudin said this after meeting and interacting with the Selangor Red Giants (SRG) team before officiating the closing ceremony of SRG Esports School 2026 at ESI Spacerubix in Puchong on August 30.

He said Selangor’s esports development began with the Selangor Cyber Games in 2014 and has since grown into an industry offering its own range of career opportunities.

Amirudin said the state government wants more young talent to receive structured guidance so they can not only develop into competitive players but also acquire the discipline and professional skills required by the industry.

“God-willing, we want more young Selangor talent to be guided not only to become outstanding players, but also disciplined and skilled professionals capable of making Selangor proud on bigger stages,” he said.

The state government will also continue strengthening Selangor’s esports ecosystem through collaborations with various strategic partners to broaden talent development opportunities.

Among the plans being explored is the development of the Selangor Esports Hub in Shah Alam as part of efforts to provide a more comprehensive ecosystem for players and industry professionals.
