SHAH ALAM, Aug 12 — The Selangor government is studying development and financing models for the Kita Selangor Rail Line to ensure it delivers optimal benefits to the state, the Selangor State Legislative Assembly heard today.
State executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han said the administration, through Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporation), or MBI, as the technical committee responsible for the rail project, is identifying viable options.
“The implementation mechanism for the project is being refined to determine the most suitable and beneficial approach for the state,” he said in response to Meru assemblyman Mariam Abdul Rashid’s question about the rail line during the assembly sitting here today.
The Kita Selangor Rail Line is a proposed network that will link the state’s west coast to key locations in the Klang Valley.
It was announced by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari when tabling the 2024 Selangor Budget, and is aimed at improving connectivity, public transport and cargo movement across the state.
On August 7, when tabling the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2), Amirudin said the Kita Selangor Rail Line may include the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service to lower infrastructure costs.
Meanwhile, Ng said a feasibility study revealed that Phase 1 of the project will take about 10 years to complete.
“This period would cover the entire development process, including preparation, preliminary design, detailed studies, approval by the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD), procurement, land acquisition, construction, and testing and commissioning.”
Ng added that the Kita Selangor Rail Line will involve both public and private sectors, with discussions ongoing to determine suitable approaches.
