Hard work pays off with four golds for Cadence

BANGI, Aug 24 — Winning four gold medals in artistic gymnastics at SUKMA Selangor 2026 has given Selangor gymnast Cadence Teh Zi Qi greater confidence to continue performing at her best.

Cadence said the achievement was especially meaningful after seeing her hard work and training pay off, while also allowing her to contribute medals to Selangor.

“I feel very happy and proud to be able to contribute to Selangor, and I’m also really happy that I was able to give my best.

“I’m very grateful and happy to have won so many medals, and I would also like to thank my teammates for always supporting me,” she told Media Selangor.

She said the success had also boosted her confidence, particularly on the balance beam, as her performances have become more stable and consistent.

Cadence trains six days a week for about five hours a day, with Sunday as her rest day.

She said good time management was essential to balancing her training and school commitments.

“I just make the best use of my time and do what I can,” she said.

Earlier, Cadence delivered a gold medal for Selangor in the women’s individual balance beam after scoring 13.000 points at Dewan Canselor Tun Abdul Razak (DECTAR), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), yesterday.

She scored 5.600 points for difficulty and 7.400 for execution to take the title.

Cadence had earlier won bronze in the women’s individual floor exercise with a score of 11.333 points.

Her four gold medals came in the women’s individual uneven bars, women’s individual all-around, women’s artistic gymnastics team event and women’s individual balance beam, making her one of Selangor’s leading gold-medal contributors in artistic gymnastics.

The haul also made Cadence one of Selangor’s leading medal contributors in artistic gymnastics at this year’s Games.
