
SERI KEMBANGAN, Aug 22 — Selangor athlete Kiranjenifeer Danchill won bronze in the women’s individual silambam thanithiramai stick event at the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) today.
In the competition at Stadium MBSJ in Serdang Jaya, she scored 8.467 points to finish third, just 0.233 points behind Perak, which claimed silver with 8.700 points. Penang won gold with 8.703 points.
The event saw a closely fought contest between the three medal winners, with only a very narrow gap separating their scores.
The achievement also boosted the medal tally, adding to the host contingent’s collection.
Meanwhile, fellow athlete Sarveshaa Murali’s hopes of winning a medal in the men’s Silambam Thanithiramai Stick Individual event were dashed after he finished sixth today.
His performance was slightly disrupted when the silambam stick slipped from his grip during the routine.
However, the incident did not dampen Sarveshaa's spirit, and he continued his performance until the end.
He scored 8.60 points to finish sixth, while the Federal Territories athlete won the gold medal with 9.37 points.
The silver medal went to Kedah, while Terengganu took bronze.
