SUKMA 2026: Head coach praises Selangor’s dramatic comeback to obtain tenpin bowling gold

PETALING JAYA, Aug 22 — Trailing by 191 pin in the first block did not dampen the spirits of the Selangor women’s tenpin bowling squad, as they staged a comeback to clinch the gold medal in the team of five event during the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) yesterday.

Head coach Mustafa Yassin said his team displayed great fighting spirit by successfully narrowing the gap as the competition progressed.

The most nerve-wracking moment occurred in the final frame, when Adania Mohd Redzwan needed to bowl two strikes to secure the gold medal for Selangor.

“We did trail by 191 pins in the first block, but they fought with everything they had from the second block right through to the final one.

“In the final block, Adania needed two strikes to win the gold medal. I am deeply moved and proud of their achievement,” he told Media Selangor.

Mustafa added that the success was the result of meticulous preparations undertaken over the past year and a half for the games.

Centralised training bringing together all Selangor athletes began last month, enabling them to prepare more comprehensively as a team.

“In preparation for SUKMA, we have been training for a year and a half, but centralised training started last month when all the athletes gathered and trained together,” he said

Selangor concluded the competition with a total of 3,018 pinfalls to secure the gold medal, ahead of Johor, who took home the silver with 2,968 pins, while Sabah won the bronze with 2,906 pins.
