SHAH ALAM, July 1 — A disruption to the Flexi Parking system caused by a cyberattack has affected parking payment services at 64 local authorities nationwide, with services expected to be restored within the next two days.

State executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said the disruption occurred during the migration to the new Flexi Parking system, adding that it is unrelated to the existing Selangor Intelligent Parking (SIP) platform and is not confined to the state.

“The system was hacked. We are now working to restore the system.

“These two days, the public may experience difficulties paying for parking,” he said during a media conference following a visit to the LRT3 Stadium Shah Alam station today.

Ng added that efforts are underway to restore the system as quickly as possible, and that the affected local authorities have been instructed not to issue parking summonses throughout the disruption.

He also dismissed claims that the SIP system had suffered a data breach, reiterating that the problem is limited to the new Flexi Parking system, which is being rolled out nationwide.

“This is not an issue with the SIP system, which has been operating without problems. The issue arose during the transition to the new Flexi system for nationwide implementation,” Ng said.

Yesterday, SIP’s operator Rantaian Mesra Sdn Bhd said the service was experiencing a temporary technical disruption and that its technical team was taking the necessary steps to restore it as soon as possible.

In response, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said no parking fees or compounds would be imposed on users during the disruption period.
